What is properly cared for furniture?

That will be the first word many will use to describe your new solid wood furniture. You can ensure your investment lives up to this claim for years- and generations-to-come, through proper care and use.

Your new furniture is a reflection of your good taste. It combines with nature’s best materials and our craftsmanship. Take the same care in maintaining its beauty as you took in selecting.

FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE TIPS TO KEEP YOUR FURNITURE BEAUTIFUL, AS NATURE INTENDED:

1. Placement

Carefully consider where to place your new furniture. Avoid setting it directly in front of radiators, heating vents, or wood-burning stoves as dry air can cause wood to dry out and may crack.

2. Humidity

If the humidity moves out of the ideal range, solid wood furniture could expand or contract, causing splits in the grain pattern and joints of the wood panels. These symptoms are the result of an uncontrolled environment and are not considered defective. If the environment is not controlled these conditions should be appreciated as an inherent characteristic of solid wood. Due to wood’s “open grain”, they tend to expand and/or contract in relationship to their environment. Indoor humidity levels in the range of 35-45% will minimize gapping, such as, at the center or ends of table leaves. Seasonal gapping or minor cracks in the grain pattern of solid wood are considered a normal occurrence and should not be assumed to be a defect of materials or workmanship.

3. Protection & Clean Up

Simply dust furniture often with a soft cloth while following the grain pattern. Periodically clean with a mild, non-alkaline soap and water using a soft cloth or sponge. Dry immediately with a soft cloth and lightly buff wood grain. Avoid nail polish remover, alcohol, or other solvents. A high-quality furniture polish may be used occasionally, but do not use polishes that contain silicone. Your retailer can recommend a polish or wax.

4. Leaf Storage

Store extra table leaves in or close to table to maintain consistent environmental conditions (not in a damp basement or dry attic).
